Itinerary

  1. Puerto Maldonado/Tambopata

    Arrive at the Puerto Maldonado airport and meet the naturalist guide to journey to the jungle lodge, spotting wildlife en route. Before dinner, head out for a night walk around the lodge. After a brief stop in town to store large luggage, drive to the pier and travel by covered motorized boat to the jungle lodge. En route, spot bird species typical of the river and forest edge—the Tambopata Rainforest holds the world record for the most bird sightings in one area. Arrive at the lodge and enjoy a welcome drink and orientation. Head out for a night walk around the lodge grounds before dinner.

    Local community members make up the majority of lodge staff, including multilingual naturalist guides. Take the opportunity to learn about the area’s rich flora and fauna and the locals' extensive use of medicinal plants and other natural forest resources through traditional techniques for building, fishing, and hunting.

  2. Tambopata

    Enjoy guided excursions by expert naturalists to spot wildlife at nearby oxbow lakes and along jungle trails. Spend some time relaxing in a hammock, enjoying the local swimming hole or visiting a nearby plantation. Go for a caiman-spotting cruise after dinner. Head out early to catch the jungle at its wildest (and coolest). Walk slowly through the forest searching for wildlife before heading out on an oxbow lake by canoe.

    Search for anaconda, the elusive giant river otter, or black caiman. Even if you don't spot these shy creatures, there are plenty of other birds, interesting plants and other animals about.

  3. Tambopata

    Take a boat excursion to a spectacular hidden lake. There's a chance to spot the elusive black caiman and giant otters. Return for lunch and another free afternoon for relaxing.

  4. Tambopata

    Walk to the protected Brazil nut tree conservation area to appreciate the use of the product throughout history. View wildlife along the way. Enjoy a free afternoon. Walk to the Brazil nut tree conservation area and learn about the uses of this product throughout history. There will be opportunities to view wildlife and learn from the naturalist guide along the way.

    Return to the lodge and enjoy plenty of free time to relax, swim, or explore the rainforest trails surrounding the lodge.

  5. Tambopata/Puerto Maldonado

    After breakfast, return by canoe to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the airport for departure. Get an early start for the canoe trip back to Puerto Maldonado. On the way, look and listen for early morning wildlife—howler monkeys are frequently heard guarding their territory.

    Arrive at the port and take a van back to the lodge office to collect your luggage before heading to the airport.

Is travel insurance required for my trip?

Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any of our trips. When selecting a travel insurance policy please bear in mind that all clients must have medical coverage and that we require a minimum coverage of USD 200,000 for repatriation and emergency rescue. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. If you have credit card insurance we require proof of purchase of the trip (a receipt of credit card statement) with a credit card in your name.
